Propelled by two MTU diesel engines, delivering
2560 kW each, the MV 115 can achieve a speed in
excess of 35 knots, and has operational range
of 1200 n.m. (at a cruising speed of 15 knots).
The basic equipment installed consists of ARPA
Radar, Navigation Radar, Geomap, Echosounder,
GPS, and an Optical Weapon Control System for
control of the 30 mm. gun.
Two prototypes had been built by intermarine in
1999 to meet the requirements of the Italian Customs
Service (Guardia di Finanza), who required a Training
Vessel derived from the basic design of the MV
85 (a 27 mt. Fast Patrol Boat built by intermarine).
Such prototypes were therefore similar in their
configuration, in terms of propulsion and electronics,
to the MV85, and had accommodations - in addition
to the basic crew of 13 persons - for 21 trainers/trainees.
On the basis of the positive behaviour of such
prototypes the Customer has ordered an operational
version of the same vessel, characterised by an
enhanced Communication system and a more powerful
Command and Control system.
The operational version, under construction at
intermarine shipyard, also has a ballistic protection
in designated areas to increase the crew safety
during law enforcement operations at sea.
Such operational version has accommodation for
a crew of 19 persons.
Because of the high flexibility in design and
its excellent features, the MV 115 can be easily
outfitted in different configurations. Variants
are offered with increased operational range and
different light armament, electronic equipment,
and/or light SSM missiles.
The characteristics of this FPB make it the
ideal vessel for use by Coast Guards, Custom Services
or small Navies requiring high performance patrol
vessels with reasonable procurement and maintenance
costs.
Intermarine has recently delivered the first of
the fifth series of MV 115 Bigliani class to Guardia
di Finanza, (Italian Custom Police).
