In
1996 the Royal Thai Navy issued a bid for the procurement
of two Mine Hunter Coastal (MHC) Vessels with combined
minesweeping capabilities, to be based on a proven
design.
13 shipyards from 10 Countries offered their Mine
Countermeasure Vessels to the RTN, who selected
intermarine for the supply of this new Class of
ships, named "Lat Ya Class".
Both ships, based on the
same hull of the Gaeta Class built by intermarine
for the Italian Navy, have been delivered to the
Royal Thai Navy in 1999.The length of these ships
is 52.45m. and the displacement is 650 t.

The propulsion system is similar to that
selected by the U.S. Navy, being based on two
cycloidal Voith Schneider Propellers (size 18GH),
driven by two MTU engines.
The propulsion system is similar to the one installed
by intermarine in the minehunters of the U.S.
Navy, two cycloidal Voith Schneider Propellers
(size 18GH), driven by two MTU engines.
Voith Schneider propulsion is therefore used for
both the normal transit navigation (at a maximum
speed of 14 knots) and for the precise navigation
over the minefield.
A suitable hydraulic system allows for operation
of both propellers from either engine to cover
engine failure.
The Combat System consists mainly of a ATLAS Command
and Control system, a ATLAS Hull Mounted Sonar
(HMS) for mines discovery and Classification,
and two Mine Disposal Vehicles Pluto Plus (supplied
by Gaymarine).
The Communication system
is provided by Rohde&Schwarz and the armament
consists of a MSI 30 mm gun.
