Rodriquez Cantieri Navali do Brasil SpA, the Brazilian yard of
the Rodriquez Group, has delivered Zeus 1°, the
first of ten catamarans under construction for Barcas SA Shipping
Company in Rio De Janeiro.
On December 10, 2004, Rodriquez
Cantieri Navali do Brasil delivered the first of three 29 meter

1°, as she is named, will operate on the Rio de Janeiro
Charitas route a small residential center of Niteroi. Zeus 1°
is completely made in aluminum with a maximum capacity of 230
passengers powered by 2 x MTU 16V 2000 M70 of 1050 kW each and

Marine System. During the see trials she reached a cruising speed
and maximum speed respectively of about 25 and 27,4 knots.
Rodriquez Cantieri Navali
do Brasil was founded in Rio de Janeiro by Rodriquez Cantieri
Navali after the signature of the contract for the construction
of ten aluminium catamarans with Barcas SA. This contract required
that the construction be in Brasil and so this new yard was established
in Niteroi and opened in August 2003. There are ten catamarans
under construction, three (named CityCat 29 and Zeus 1° is
the first) 29 metres, 25 knots of speed and 230 passengers capacity
and seven (named CityCat 52DE) 52 metres, 18 knots and 900 seats
and 300 standing passengers. These second type are equipped with
two variable pitch propellers with 360° rotation so the ship
can berth in a very short time and at the same time can reach
a speed of 18 knots, suitable for the two mile distance from Rio
to Niteroi.
