RODRIQUEZ CANTIERI
NAVALI SIGNS A NEW CONTRACT WITH “LAURO SHIPPING”
TO BUILD THREE 40 METRE CATAMARANS.
The three CityCat 40 catamarans for service in the Gulf of Naples
from the summer of 2004 are a significant boost to Rodriquez in
their efforts to be a leader also with the construction of high
speed catamarans.
The contract, which was signed
the 6th of October, is for the construction of three catamarans
for Alilauro based in Naples and who are a part of Gruppo Lauro
(www.lauro.it).
Recently, Alilauro signed a code sharing agreement with the Italian
airline Alitalia to provide
transportation to the islands including Capri and Ischia as well
as to Sorrento and the Amalfi coast for Alitalia’s passengers
flying into Naples. These new catamarans will be an important
part of this new transportation arrangement to provide Alitalia’s
passengers with a seamless and extremely comfortable means to
reach their final destination.
The three catamarans will seat 320 passengers on two decks. The
all aluminium catamarans, designated as CityCat 40’s, will
be built to RINa’s HSC class. The 32 knot cruising speed
will be provided by two 2000 kw diesel engines, coupled to two
Kamewa waterjets. Two of the three CityCats will have the Caterpillar
3516B engines and the third will have twin MTU 12V396’s.
The stabilization system will consist of transom mounted Intruders
and two anti-roll and anti-pitch T-Foils.
The stabilization system and also the entire vessel monitoring
system will be entirely provided by Rodriquez Marine System, Rodriquez’s
wholly owned subsidiary and specialist in these systems.
The ships will be delivered in June, July and December 2004 and
will replace the old Kolkida class hydrofoils already serving
these routes.
With this latest contract, Rodriquez currently has 14 catamarans
under construction. This clearly highlights the diverse capabilities
of the yard. In fact, including all fast monohulls, fast catamarans,
hydrofoils, yachts along with composite and aluminium patrol boats,
there are 60 ships under construction in all of the Rodriquez
yards.
