INTERMARINE IN COOPERATION WITH BAGLIETTO GETS A NEW CONTRACT FROM THE ITALIAN CUSTOMS POLICE

The tender for the construction of the first series of 13,20 m fast interceptor craft by the Guardia di Finanza (Italian Customs Police) has been officially awarded the last 16th of October to the shipyards Baglietto S.p.A. and Intermarine S.p.A. (part of Rodriquez Cantieri Navali), who have cooperated for this tender.

The tender, for the first lot of more than 100 boats, is for the design, construction and financing of twelve fast Interceptor vessels in composite material plus the supply of the spare parts for each boat. The contract, with a total value of €11.500.000, will be concluded before the end of 2005.
The boats are Fast Interceptors with a total length of 13,20 m with the electronic equipment supplied by GEM. There are two 620 hp Seatek diesel engines, each coupled to a KaMeWa waterjet to allow the 4 crew to reach a maximum speed of 45 knots.
To offer a better product than the competing yards, Baglietto and Intermarine decided to take part in the tender together, creating a cooperation able to take advantage of the technical and production synergies of the yards in order to propose a product with the best relationship between quality and price.
Baglietto, with yards in Varazze and in La Spezia, is a historical brand in the yacht business able to build high performance vessels both in aluminium and in FRP and also has a long tradition building fast patrol boats for many different navies in the world.
Intermarine, founded in 1970, is specialized in the design and construction of high quality and advanced technology composite material vessels, and is a leader in world leading MCM (mine counter-measure) vessels.
Since September 2003 Intermarine has been a part of the Rodriquez Cantieri Navali group who themselves are now one of the largest privately held shipbuilders in Italy.
