INTERMARINE LAUNCHES
A PATROL BOAT FOR THE ITALIAN GUARDA DI FINANZA AND ALSO GETS
A NEW CONTRACT
The launch of the patrol vessel, named
“G116 Lagana” and first of the new series of ten 27
meter patrol vessels under construction for the Guardia di Finanza
(Italian Custom Service), was preceded with the confirmation of
the order for two additional 35 meter Patrol Boats.
Launched today, the 18th of
September 2003 at 6.30 p.m by Rodriquez’s Intermarine shipyard
in Sarzana was the Bigliani Class IV Series Patrol Boat “G116
Laganà”. The ceremony, presided over by Gen.
Castore Palmerini, Commander of the Liguria Region of the Guardia
di Finanza, saw the traditional breaking of the bottle performed
by the ship’s godmother, Mrs. Silvana Laganà, a direct
descendant of Ordinary Seaman Laganà, who was awarded the
Military Cross for Valour during World War II and for whom the
ship has been named.
“G116 Laganà” will be delivered in approximately
8 months and is an evolution of the Bigliani class developed in
1998 at the Perdetti Maritime School. She is a 27 meter 100% composite
vessel and is capable of speeds up to 40 knots. Her highly sophisticated
construction along with Intermarine’s demanding quality
standards combined with the needs of the Guardia di Finanza have
resulted in a vessel that is ideally suited to her role in coastal
patrolling against illicit and contraband activities.
The ship launched today is part of a contract with the Guardia
di Finanza for the supply of ten 27 meter patrol vessels along
with three 35 meter patrol boats, the latter having been launched
in the past months and are close to being completed. The first
of the 35 meter series, the “G3 DI BARTOLO” will be
delivered in October with delivery of the final vessel of the
contract to be towards the end of 2005.
Two days prior to the launch, Intermarine received the order from
the Guardia di Finanza for two 35 meter Patrol Boats in addition
to the three already under construction. This is seen as a confirmation
of the excellent relationship between the yard and the customer
which itself is based on the high quality of the ships produced
at Intermarine. The contract is valued at approximately 25 million
euros with delivery of the patrol boats in 2006.
With this latest contract, the total number of vessels under construction
at Intermarine is nineteen: 10 x 27 meter Patrol Boats, 3 x 35
meter Patrol Boats, and 2 x 36 meter motor-yachts all in glass-reinforced
plastic and one 38 m Rodriquez Yacht in aluminium. There is also
the first of series of the 23 meter 75 WideBody yachts for Conam,
also a Rodriquez company.
